On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Marianne Downey and Betoel Escobar, Community Advisory Panel members met with Wendy Rogers, CHART Director and Carrie Wennerdahl, CHART Coordinator to offer their expert feedback on current CHART research and an Age Friendly University Project.
The Community Advisory Panel is comprised of older adults, representing a diverse subset of the population, who convene to provide input on research questions, pilot test newly developed tools and applications, and are a resource for our faculty, staff, and students to perform research and development activities with older adults and not for them.
During the spring meeting, the panel members listened to two research presentations for their feedback: First was a Virtual Reality Project from the Center for Research and Education on Aging and Technology Enhancement (CREATE) funded by the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Aging) by Dr. George Mois & Dr. Avinash Gupta. Second was Dr. Laura Rice introducing the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Technologies to Support Aging-in-Place for People with Long-Term Disabilities (TechSAge) funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research. Then the panel members received updates and plans for the Age Friendly University website project presented by Janet Azuma, Center on Health Aging, and Disability (CHAD) Intern.
After each presentation there was an abundance of discussion and recommendations offered by the panel members on how to best reach and serve the aging population in the community with research and collaboration with the university. We appreciate their input and support for CHART!
